Parent Teen Mediation

FAYSS counsellors work with youth between the ages of 12 and 19. They provide short term (8 weeks) outreach counselling and conflict mediation to families in crisis. The goal is to prevent family breakdown and the need to take youth into the care of the Ministry for Children and Family Development. FAYSS will also assist families by linking them with other community based service providers.

Parental Support

FAYSS counsellors provide parents with methods for improving their parenting skills, increase their knowledge of community resources, help link parents to ongoing community support, and work towards maintaining the youth in the home. FAYSS offers a parent support group.

Functional Family Therapy

FFT is intensive family therapy. The FAYSS therapist(s) work with youth between the ages of 12 and 19 and their families. Therapy can range from 8 to 30 sessions. The focus of FFT is on the family and not on just the youth’s issues. Both youth and parents need to be committed to the counselling to access this service.

Sexual Abuse Support Services (SASS)

Professional counselling and support for children and adolescents who have experienced sexual abuse, and for their non-offending family members, in the City and Township of Langley. The abuse must have been reported to police or Ministry for Children and Family Development. In the case of teens who have experienced sexual assault by a peer, no report to police or ministry is required. Self and professional referrals accepted.

Community Development

Includes: Community Capacity Development, Community Work Service, and Youth Mentorship. Through positive involvement with the community, community capacity works to develop local resources that provide natural supports and positive attitudes towards youth. Community work service is an outreach service that provides a range of services to youth in trouble with the law by providing the youth with the opportunity to repay their community and/or the victim of the offence. Youth mentorship works to increase youth resiliency and success through the provision of supportive relationships and positive role models.
